What is a cloud?

A cloud is a candy floss ball that is so sweet and fluffy

A cloud is a frothy thing that lives in the sky.

It is a mood changing ball of foam.

Clouds are steps to heaven for the gods.

A cloud is a fluffy afro poffing out of my head.

By William

What is a cloud?

A cloud is a fluffy piece of cotton placed in the sky.

A cloud is a cuddly sheep drinking from a pool of water.

A cloud is a wooly jumper blanketing the sky with warmth.

A cloud is a silky web that a spider has spun in the sky.

A cloud is a sleet of ice floating aimlessly in the ocean.

iMovie's for our Buddies

We used iMovie on the iPads to create short video clips about our school to share with our buddies in London.  We hope they get more of an insight into our school and what our school environment looks like.

Maths Maestros

Every Monday the Room 8 maths class do a Canta-Maths problem solving session.  This morning Daniel and William took the reins and organised it for us.  They spent time last week gathering their questions and then Megan checked them.  They did an awesome job and made it really challenging for everyone!  They displayed several aspects of our Ranzau School vision this morning!  Awesome work boys!  You are Super STARS!

Leaf Art

This afternoon we are doing some lead art. We had to choose an animal and find lots of leaves that had already fallen from the tree! We then had to use the leaves to form the shape of our animal. It was quite tricky finding the perfect sized leaves to use!

Ben's first regatta

Toot, as the five minute hooter went.  Four minutes later it was go! I pulled my main sheet in and I was going up to the first mark. I was coming first round the first mark.  Kapash! as a wave hits the bow. The second mark was harder to get to.  I got to the mark and sailed around it.  Once I got to the the last mark it was blowing at least  twenty five knots. I finally got to the finish line.  I headed to the slipway and finally I was on shore.

Shaving foam art

Here are some of our finished pieces. We learnt a lot from our first attempts. This time around we made sure that we didn't mix the colours into the foam with a lot of force. We tried to treat the foam like eggs when you make a pavlova and blend the food colouring in really softly. We also learnt that pulling the shaving foam off at the end is the most important part. You have to push and pull really hard to reveal your pattern! How great do these ones look?

Spring Show

Yesterday was the Ranzau Spring Show. We had an awesome day with our buddies. There were 4 activities that we rotated around throughout the morning. The activities were: Painting, sand sauces, fruit and vegie creations and boot decorating. In the afternoon all of our creations were in the multi-purpose room for our parents to see. We finished the day off by playing games outside with our buddies.

Digital Citizenship

This morning we had a chat about being good digital citizens and how we can keep safe online.
Here is what we came up with:

What being a good digital citizen means to us:

Being a confident and capable user of ICT
Using sites that are appropriate for our age
Leaving positive comments for others
Keeping our personal details safe.  Not sharing our address, home phone number etc with others
Treating ICT equipment with respect

We will be using a site called Edmodo so it is really important that we know what being a good digital citizen means.

Our fluffy Visitor!

This morning my mum bought in our duckling.  My sister found it on the side of the road and we are looking after it now.
The duckling is called Professor Quackers and it lives in an incubator in my brother's room.  We are feeing it silver beet, soggy weetbix, cabbage and dog roll!  It shakes its wings all the time and tries to fly.

It is very cute (We don't know if it is a boy or girl yet)

Look what we have got!

This afternoon a special package was delivered to school! It is so exciting to have a reply from our buddies in London! We wanted to rip open the package ..... But Megan is making us wait until the morning because Joshua and Harvey are on road patrol!

Life Education

This afternoon we went over the the mobile classroom to learn about the brain.  It is this big trailer where Victoria and Harold hang out!  We got to see Harold and TAM (a mannequin)

Here are some of the things we learnt:

Each day to be happy and healthy we need:
Water
Food
Oxygen
Exercise
Shelter
Sleep
Love

We have 656 muscles in our body

If you haven't had enough water to drink in a day and you go to the toilet, you urine will be very yellow!

Brain messages travel 250 - 500km/hr throughout our body

Our brain is split into 2 main parts and each part has a different jobs.

We are going back in the morning and we will share some more learning with you.

Camera vs Pencil art

This week we are creating camera vs pencil art. We have chosen images and printed them out. We now have to use another piece of paper to draw part of the image using pencil. It looks pretty cool! We will let you see our finished artwork by the end of the week.

Brooklyn's so far:

One of the examples we are using:

Welcome Victoria and Harold

We are back after 2 weeks holiday! Everyone is happy to be back and we were all excited to see each other and hear what we had all been up to over the holidays. This week we have Victoria and Harold here from the Life Education Trust. Victoria and Harold came to our assembly this morning. Harold was a very energetic giraffe and we can tell he is very good at striking a pose for the camera. Room 8 has their first session in the Life Ed bus tomorrow. We will be learning all about our brain and how it delivers messages to the rest of our body. Check back tomorrow to see what we learnt.

BP Technology Challenge

On Tuesday 4 senior children (Max, Hamish, Abbey and Kendall) went to the BP Technology challenge at the Waimea College Hall.  It was heaps of fun!  We had 3 challenges to do.  2 of them we already knew about so we had time to plan them out at school.  The 3rd one was a mystery challenge.  We had to make a fishing rod out of newspaper and we had to catch as many fish as we could in 1 minute.  Hamish did a great job of collecting 390 points worth of fish (each fish was worth a different amount)
We came third in the mystery challenge and we got a certificate and we could choose a prize.  Hamish and Max each got a frisbee and Abbey and I got a drink bottle.

Global Children's Challenge

Today we started the Global Children's challenge.  We have all been given pedometers to count how many steps we do each day and to challenge us to do more.  It is to get more children moving!  At Ranzau we are really active so this will be easy for us to get our steps in each day!  We have a stepper of the day each day so we will let you know who our champ is each day!
