Final maths challenge.

We won today's maths challenge. We had 3 of our star mini ballers go outside and see how many goals they could shoot in 2 minutes. The average was 8. We decided because Paul would be double skill full that we would double 8 to come up with our guess of 16. Paul shot 17 goals so we were the closest!! Thanks Paul for helping us out with our last challenge for maths week!

Maths Challenge - Day 2!

Today's challenge was: If all the children in our school lined up (shoulder to shoulder) how long would our line be in metres? All of the classes worked hard to try and estimate the distance. There were lots of different strategies being used!  Room 5 got the exact measurement - 43.5m! They were spot on!  Well done Room 5.  Room 1 and Room 6 were really close too! They were within 10cm of Room 5.  Tomorrow's one is a good one too!

This week at Ranzau school we are having a maths week. Each day we have a different maths challenge for our whole school. Today's questions is: how many dry weetbix can Dave eat in 1 minute? We had 4 people give this a go this morning. It is actually really hard to swallow dry weetbix! We will let you know how many Dave manages to eat!

Co-operative work

This afternoon we did a co-operative problem solving task. This is part of our inquiry topic this term. We are focusing on competition and co-operation. We had to create a bridge using only newspaper, Sellotape, string and card. We had to make the bridge as long and as strong as possible so that it could hold a 500g weight.

If you had to go to work today...what job would YOU do?

Rohan would like to be an astronaut so he could travel to the moon and mars.

Alex would be an engineer or architect so he could design his dream house!

Alice would like to be a doctor because you get paid lots of money!

Reuben would be a policeman because you get to keep people safe.

Zeus would like to work at a pet shop because of all of the cute pets.

Ella would like to be the ride tester at Rainbows End because you get to test all of the rides.

Zeke would like to work at the Weta Workahop because I love art and it would be cool to create some of the things they make there.

Matthew would like to join the navy so he could fly jets onto boats!

What job would you do if you had to go to work today ?

Commonwealth Games.

Today we have found out a bit about the Commonwealth Games. First we did some research on what the Commonwealth actually is! It is made up of 53 independent countries who volunteer to be part of the Commonwealth and support each other and work together towards international goals.
This year the Games are being held in Glasgow which is in Scotland. There are 22 events at the Games.
Australia is the country with the most Commonwealth medals with over 2000 Commonwealth medals and 803 Gold Medals.

Welcome Sarah

This term we have a student teacher in room 8 for 5 weeks. Her name is Sarah Oates and this is her last teaching placement. She will have a great time with us in Room 8!  You can find out about her and follow her time in Room 8 on her blog. www.missoatesontheboil.blogspot.com

Market Day

Yesterday we held our Ranzau School market day.  After weeks of hard work and organising it was time to sell our products and services.  We were all really nervous about it and if people would buy our stuff.  It was heaps of fun and all of the groups sold out of their food.  Room 8 made $299.99 profit just from our class.  We learnt heaps and this morning we reflected on what we had done well and what we could do to improve our business if we did it again.  Thanks to our school community for all your support.
