Problem Solving Challenge - Day 1

Each day this week, we will be doing a problem solving challenge in a group. Today we needed to create a Wearable Art using newspaper, string, straws, tape and scissors. The outfit had to have an NZ theme to it. We were judged by Megan on our Creativeness, NZ theme, Presentation and our design had to stay on our model during the parade.
It was heaps of fun and everyone worked well together. Todays challenge was won by NZ Creations (Tamzin, Sophie, Jessica and Kayla)

Wheels day!

Monday was great, it was wheels day. We did heaps of cool, amazing, fun things. It was as fun as camp. There was a seniors course and a juniors course set up. I helped out with the juniors course. Two people stood at each crash point and stopped the kids and let them go again.

Wheels Day!

On Monday we had wheels day and it was really FUN. All the kids in the school brought their bikes and scooters to school. The Community Council and the Sports Commitee made some courses. One was for the juniors and the other one was for the seniors. The juniors looked like they were having lots and lots of fun and the seniors looked like they had lots of fun too.

Cycle Saftey

Whoosh! I speed up to Dave, racing my bike as fast a racehorse at full speed.
"Left, right, squeeze and hold," I chant as I perform the same sequence on my bikes brakes.
"Good job!" Dave said.
"Thanks," I reply.
I can't wait to have another go!
It is important to brake like this because if you only use your front brake you will fly over the handle bars!

The Wall of Terror

We all sat down and watched Tom and Andrew demonstrate how to put on a special belt that you use for walking down cliff faces and also going into caves . I felt sick at the thought of it .
I shuffled my foot closer and closer to the edge of the wall , I leaned back and started walking backwards. I felt butterflies come as I heard everyone cheer me on .
I was half way down the steep cliff ,the butterflies started to calm down.
I took a puny step back and I felt the ground . Finally I was back on solid ground .
That was awesome I thought ,its a little scary at first but its great once you know what your doing .I pulled the dirty old strap out of the buckle .I could see the dust from the belt float through the air and settle on the ground.
The belt fell to the floor and I picked it up and put it in a pile .
I wish I could do that again I thought !

The amazing game of Sicket.

"Ok let's have a boys line and a girls line." Catrina said.
I hope I'm in the bating side first. Ahead I could see Catrina pointing to the bating side
"Oh yes I'm batting first." I'm so exited I hope I don't get out strait away.

I hope we win. I haven't won a game of Sicket in ages. Finally it's my turn to bat. I go and pick up the bat. The ball seems to come in slow motion.
it finally reaches me. I swing. BANG!
Yes I hit it! I ran as fast as lightning to first bass.

What a great score we have! I can't believe we might actually win a game of Sicket. Bang! Went the bat and the ball as they connected. 'Mine' I shouted. I ran after the ball as fast as I could. Oh no I dropped it. Hopefully I'll have better luck next time.

Oh come on! Times up already, well at least we won, I thought. "Hamish I'll gather up all the hoops for you." I said. I handed the hoops to Hamish. 'Thanks.' He said. Slowly all the exitment I had slowly left me as I left the field. I went up to my Mum. 'Hey Mum guess what? We won Sicket and I nearly caught someone.' I could see her eyes twinkling as she said "Great effort Jed."

That Gorgeous Sea

I glanced out the window, the drive was taking AGES!
"How much longer," I groaned.

My stomach was full of butterflies. I was excited, but super nervous too.

When we FINALLY arrived at Marahau, the Year 6's met up at the start of the walk to Anchorage. The teachers gave us a quick briefing and then we were off - at a walk of course!

I was getting bored - I mean we've been walking for around 4 and a 1/2 hours! My feet were getting really hot in my stuffy sneakers and all I could see was the same barren path ahead.

"Uggh" I said as I plonked down on the sandy sea floor. I took off my backpack. We'd finally made it to Anchorage! I felt the cool sand beneath my fingers and lay down for a well deserved rest!

Don't give up Japan!

Red and White? Why is everybody dressed in these colours? Well, you might of heard about the the massive earthquake Japan has had, followed by a tsunami and now that they can't pump fresh water into the nuclear plant? They now have to worry about a possible nuclear melt down! So today (23.3.11) people all around the world are dressed in red and white to support Japan. So don't give up Japan!

Year 6 camp Pa creations

Over the crashing of the waves our group talked on how we should make our Maori Pa. We all started making big Pa's until we realised the Maori Pa's didn't have to be life size. So we all rushed to make a smaller Pa. We stuck in pointy shells as a fence to keep away predators and a crab shell to hide our food. We won it was so much fun.

The Anchorage

We were so nervous we had butterflies in our stomach as we drove away from Kaiteriteri .We could hear our hearts racing with excitement. On Tuesday the 15 March the year sixes had to fight the four hour Anchorage walk . The start was fine but in the end everyone could feel the pain.

Year 6 Camp: Abseiling

I feed the rope into the figure 8, tying not to look down. I'm suddenly standing on a 5 meter slope, thats almost vertical. I take a deep breath, bend my knees and jump! While I'm in the air I feed some more rope, so I can go down the slope as I jump. "Smile!" Sina says as she snaps a picture. In a few more jumps I hit the bottom - I can't wait for another go!

Day four at Bethany park camp.

Day four was awesome!!!!!!!We did Kayaking, sand sculptures and endurance swim.
The Kayak was wobbling as I slowly got in,I could hear my heart racing at 100 mph. We had to walk along the fronts of the Kayaks. It was so freaky!!!!!!!!! We stood up in the Kayaks. That day was so fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

za boat ride man

ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOM (said the boat) as we zoomed off along the salty sea. We went about 100 MPH it was extremely awesomely fun!!!!!!! We stopped at Split Apple Rock and the boat driver told us a bit about it, there were two lovely people. THEY WAVED to US!!! Next we stopped off at the seals they were totally awesomely awesome they did backstroke and breaststroke. I think that that they should go to inter school swimming sports they would so totally win man! After that we went to the beach for a while and we went for a swim. The water was freezing cold but we had so much fun.
