Look what we have got!
This afternoon a special package was delivered to school! It is so exciting to have a reply from our buddies in London! We wanted to rip open the package ..... But Megan is making us wait until the morning because Joshua and Harvey are on road patrol!
Life Education
This afternoon we went over the the mobile classroom to learn about the brain. It is this big trailer where Victoria and Harold hang out! We got to see Harold and TAM (a mannequin)
Here are some of the things we learnt:
Each day to be happy and healthy we need:
Water
Food
Oxygen
Exercise
Shelter
Sleep
Love
We have 656 muscles in our body
If you haven't had enough water to drink in a day and you go to the toilet, you urine will be very yellow!
Brain messages travel 250 - 500km/hr throughout our body
Our brain is split into 2 main parts and each part has a different jobs.
We are going back in the morning and we will share some more learning with you.

Camera vs Pencil art
This week we are creating camera vs pencil art. We have chosen images and printed them out. We now have to use another piece of paper to draw part of the image using pencil. It looks pretty cool! We will let you see our finished artwork by the end of the week.

Welcome Victoria and Harold
We are back after 2 weeks holiday! Everyone is happy to be back and we were all excited to see each other and hear what we had all been up to over the holidays.
This week we have Victoria and Harold here from the Life Education Trust. Victoria and Harold came to our assembly this morning. Harold was a very energetic giraffe and we can tell he is very good at striking a pose for the camera.
Room 8 has their first session in the Life Ed bus tomorrow. We will be learning all about our brain and how it delivers messages to the rest of our body.
Check back tomorrow to see what we learnt.

BP Technology Challenge
On Tuesday 4 senior children (Max, Hamish, Abbey and Kendall) went to the BP Technology challenge at the Waimea College Hall. It was heaps of fun! We had 3 challenges to do. 2 of them we already knew about so we had time to plan them out at school. The 3rd one was a mystery challenge. We had to make a fishing rod out of newspaper and we had to catch as many fish as we could in 1 minute. Hamish did a great job of collecting 390 points worth of fish (each fish was worth a different amount)
We came third in the mystery challenge and we got a certificate and we could choose a prize. Hamish and Max each got a frisbee and Abbey and I got a drink bottle.

This is to say thanks to Mr Neal and the Mahana students who came to teach us about the game Ki o Rahi yesterday. It was awesome and we hope we can get a kit soon so we can start playing it at Ranzau!

On Friday the Ranzau Giants played in the miniball final against Nayland Blue Saints. We beat them 32-20. Player of the year was Ollie and Player of the day was Max. The Ranzau Giants were unbeaten this season! Thanks to Nigel for coaching us this season and to Delcan and Ben from the Nelson Giants who helped out too.

Global Children's Challenge
Today we started the Global Children's challenge. We have all been given pedometers to count how many steps we do each day and to challenge us to do more. It is to get more children moving! At Ranzau we are really active so this will be easy for us to get our steps in each day! We have a stepper of the day each day so we will let you know who our champ is each day!

Hello Barnaby Class!
We really enjoyed receiving your comments on our blog when we got to school this morning. We would have been fast asleep when you were posting them! Now you will be fast asleep while we are posting this!
Some of you commented on our Star of the Week awards. Our certificates for star of the week look like this:
To celebrate our star of the week we make a poster that shows what is special about that person.
Can you show us what your star of the week certificates look like?
This morning we wanted to find out why your school was called Charles Dickens Primary? We knew Charles Dickens was a writer and now we know that he use to live Lant Street and that your school runs along Lant Street.
We also compared your school street view to our school street view on Google Maps!

Persuasive writing.
This morning we watched a short clip about a hover bike. We had to create a persuasive advertisement to persuade people to buy a hover bike! Our advertisement has to include:
Powerful adjectives
A question
A snappy slogan
The benefits of having a hover bike.

On Saturday it was the last weekend of Netball for our 2 Ranzau teams. They have had an awesome season and they have represented Ranzau with Pride each week. Thank you to all the parents, siblings, grandparents and friends who have come along each week to support the girls. How awesome were Tim and Craig with their sideline support on the weekend?! I think we need to get these Dad's helping out with our Production next term!

Winter Sports tournament
Last Thursday the Year 5 and 6's went to Henley school to take part in the Winter Sports tournament.
I played rugby & Hamish's dad was our coach and a very good one too. Our first match was against Brightwater and sadly we lost 7 - 0 but we were still happy because that team was full with club players.
Our favorite game was the last game because we won 7-0 against the Henley Warriors.

Daily quiz
Hi everyone it is Flynn and William here. Room 8's week 7 reporters. This week we are going to be having a daily question posted on our blog. You need to keep a record of the answers all week and then you will need to give us the answers to all the questions on Friday. It will be the first person who comments on Friday with all 5 answers to our questions, will win a prize ..... So keep checking back each day. We will post our questions just before lunchtime each day. Megan has created a new tab along the top of our blog to record the questions so you can find them easily. Good luck followers.

Ecofest Funky Fashion
Over the weekend Kendall, Zara and Sofia went to the Ecofest funky fashion show. We modeled our Wearable art creations from last term. We had to model our dresses on a catwalk in-front of a big crowd. We were the first 2 models out on the catwalk.
There were 52 different dresses in total. There was the option to create your design out of recycled material or you could create an op-shop outfit for under $10. Some dresses were made out of old wallpaper, music sheats, bubble wrap and colleted things from the beach.
It was heaps of fun!
